Frequently Asked Questions
Before surgery
How long do I need to wait for my surgery?
Once we decide on the surgical route, a date will usually be set within the next 4 weeks.
Do I need to shave my legs before surgery?
It is not safe to shave your own legs before surgery as cuts can cause infection. The doctor will prepare the leg with specialised tools before surgery.
What do I do if I am feeling ill or have scratches or open wounds before surgery?
Contact the doctor’s office immediately. We may need to postpone the surgery to avoid infections.
After Surgery
When can I drive again?
No driving is allowed within the first 24 hours following surgery, however it depends on the recovery of each individual patient.
When can I return to work?
This is dependent on the type of surgery and the type of work you do, and should be discussed during consultations.
How long will I need to stay in hospital?
This will depend on the nature of the surgery, however if you can walk safely without major pain, you may be discharged.
Is there something I can do to speed up my recovery?
A nutritional, well-balanced diet is important and try to stop any unhealthy habits including smoking. Adhere to restrictions given by the doctor, including driving and returning to work.
