Dr André Olivier – Background

Training:

Following his qualification in orthopaedic surgery at the Stellenbosch University, Dr Olivier attained 2 international fellowships in the United Kingdom, respectively at the Royal Gwent Hospital in South Wales, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London.

He subsequently practiced as Revision Arthroplasty Surgeon and Musculoskeletal Tumour Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London.

Experience:

Dr. Olivier acted as the Research Supervisor for the Bone Tumour Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London.

He is co-author of the chapter on Cruciate Retaining Knee Replacements in the EFORT Textbook of Surgical Orthopaedics and Traumatology, as well as numerous international orthopaedic publications and podium presentations.

Whilst practicing Orthopaedic Surgery in the United Kingdom, he acted as Fellowship Supervisor for the Zimmer Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship and the Commonwealth Bone Tumour Fellowship. He has been teaching various international fellows at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London.

Awards:

Dr Olivier was awarded the Barry O’Kelly Memorial Award for best paper presented at South African Orthopaedic Registrars’ Congress in 2008, as well as the Roth Medical Award for best academic paper, by the Department Orthopaedic Surgery (University of Stellenbosch) in 2008 and 2009.

In 2014 he was senior author of the Best Poster Presentation at The Royal Society of Medicine GP Forum and British Orthopaedic Oncology Society Meeting, both in the United Kingdom.
